Carson Barnes was born in California in 1956, raised in Maryland and found wild orchids in bloom in June of 1972 and was smitten. At about the same time he took up silkscreen printmaking. He holds the Bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Haverford College and the Master’s in Fine Arts from California College of the Arts. After 35+ years of printmaking an average of 5 hours per day all year (yes, over 60,000 hours’ experience) and sustaining injuries in both wrists, he’s taken to digital printing technology and so divides his time between fine art printmaking and growing, and hybridizing orchid plants. He has numerous awards in both endeavors, and moved to the Atlanta area in 2012 the better to pursue them.

The present images start as digital photographs, several in most prints, from the Nikon digital SLR, and after some weeks of processing are printed using archival inks on the Epson 9600 using Rives BFK acid free archival paper. The models are not of this time, they are mostly of the 19th century, some older, and a few more recent. They are of marble.
