Standards for most of the orchids we provide:

Phalaenopsis - 4" pot Single stems ought to have at least 7 flowers/buds; better if they have more. Special varieties may have one less. Doubles, well, double it!

Phalaenopsis - 5 to 6" pot We expect same bud count as for 4 inch pots, but on larger (much larger) plants which means they can last the full 4 or more months one should expectd.

Vandas in 6", we select for at least 8 buds and blooms per stem.

Miltonias -pansy orchids - 4" pots  4 + spikes; a "spike" should have 3 buds at a minimum. Prefer 5 or more.

Cattleyas - Some varieties really only make 2 enormous blooms per growth, we prefer 3 at a minimum, and cluster types ought to make like 5 or 6 at least.

Brassia - Seven or eight minimum per stem, which should be held well clear of the leaves.

Novelty ("Maudiae") Paphs - These usually make just one flower per stem, we only ship double or triple stem plants.

Masdevallias - 3", multiple spikes, 4 at a minimum.

Zygopetalums should have 4 or more buds per stem.

Odont types, also called Oncidiinae, Intergenerics, or "novelties" - 4" should have at least 7 buds per stem, we prefer to ship doubles or better; second stem on these sometimes may make 5 or 6 buds. Some of the yellow varieties especially don't often make more than one stem, so if yellows are specified we may supply big single spikers.

Odont types, 6" fatties, should be much more robust plants than 4" with accordingly taller and more floriferous stems.

Oncidium Sweet Sugar or its parent Aloha Iwanaga - Six branches would make the minimum spectacular plant, we prefer 8 or more branches per stem.
