The artworks were made by Carson Barnes: For information on the Seabrainiac legends, click here.

Born 1956, Seaside California; began serigraphy in 1970; learned "basics" of b/w photography 1974, and "basics" of photosilkscreen processes in an industrial plant in east Los Angeles in 1975. B.A. 1978, Haverford College, Haverford PA, in printmaking (coursework at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges); MFA 1989, California College of Arts & Crafts, Oakland CA, in printmaking (they've now dropped "and crafts" from the name).

Studied with Fritz Janschka, Charles Stegeman, Christopher Cairns, Dru Shipman, Nancy Goldring, Arthur Okamura, Betsy Davids, Dennis Leon, Jody Gillerman, Chris Johnson. Argued with Ken Rignall and Jack Ford. More thoughtfully, Fritz Janschka was most influential in his mature ability to allow the unexpected to show in his and his students' work. Dennis Leon was insuperable in his ability to see, think about what he saw, and elucidate what he thought, and then discuss the differences between his cogent views and mine.

Charles Stegeman warned me about art schools, and it was some piece of work to seek out instructors within and outside the printmaking department with whom to work - the medium orientation was then and is still irrelevant but revered as an organizing principle of the institution.

Ahem. Awarded "Best in Show" in 1986 at the Triton Museum of Art's annual printmaking and drawing show, George Rivera curator, Santa Clara, CA. "First Place" in Eureka CA photographics exhibition, 1991. Additionally, only artist whose works were ordered removed by Apple's Steve Jobs from the NEXT corporate gallery, a distinction of sorts, in 1986.
